Smile Extension Project

Background

  • The Institute of Special Needs and Inclusive Education at The Education University of Hong Kong previously implemented the "Jockey Club SMILE project," funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, from 2013 to 2016, supporting 145 primary and secondary schools in providing inclusive education services.

  • The support services positively impacted the development of inclusive education in schools and were well-received by frontline teachers. Although the funding program has ended, the institute continues to provide services through other funding projects on a self-financing basis to further promote the development of inclusive education in Hong Kong.

Purpose

  • To provide opportunities for local primary and secondary schools to partner with The Education University of Hong Kong, promoting the development of inclusive education through professional support and knowledge transfer.

  • To establish a cross-school learning community through professional exchanges and research practices within the community, expanding educational work that addresses individual student differences.
